The NMR specialised group (GERMN) from RSEQ has awarded Héctor Zamora-Carreras, ex-member of the IQFR’s NMR group, with the prize to the “best NMR thesis” defended in the 2016/2017 academic year.

As every year, the NMR specialised group (GERMN) from the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) awards the two best thesis in the field of NMR and its applications. This year, one of the prizes corresponding to the 2016/2017 academic year, went to Héctor Zamora-Carreras, who was a PhD student in the protein NMR group from IQFR, under the supervision of Dr. Marta Bruix and Dr. Mª Ángeles Jiménez. In Héctor’s thesis, NMR spectroscopy combined with diverse biochemical, physicochemical, and computational techniques have been utilised to study several interesting biological systems involving some representative biomolecular recognition events, such as peptide-membrane interactions, carbohydrate-protein interactions, and protein-protein interactions. The aim of this thesis is to go deeper in the knowledge of some biomolecular recognition events, and reinforce that NMR spectroscopy as a powerful tool to address the characterization of biomolecular interactions.
